Learning Environment

Small Classes

Second School believes that a proper learning environment should provide for both collaboration and individual support. 5-6 children are too few for effective collaboration and more than 12 children are too many for individual support. Second School will hence have class sizes of below 12 students.

Certified Tutors

Each one of our tutors are certified by Second School. The certification covers three areas

  • Domain Knowledge. Complete knowledge of the content. Teachers who have already taught the subject in the recent past do not need to be certified again
  • Teaching Methods. We focus our training and certification to cater to individuals with different learning styles. Our classes also cater to multiple learning styles.
  • Second School Methodology. Our teaching and assessment methodology with special focus on common mistakes and remedial teaching.

Structured Content

All our content is curriculum specific and conforms exactly to the board syllabus. The content is taught through slides on a computer screen. Each chapter has three main components

  • Concept Understanding. This is done through collaborative exercises involving games, activities and discussions. Examples used are from real life and most often in areas that the students will otherwise be interested. The focus is as much on ‘why’ the concept is relevant to them as ‘how’ to apply it
  • Topic Mastery. Within each chapter, each topic is then taken up with examples and exercises. These are highly interactive sessions where the teacher first explains and then helps students solve problems. There is extensive revision of each topic to ensure retention, along with time provided for practicing the ideas learnt.
  • Practice. At the end of each chapter, a full session is dedicated to practice where students do many exercises to cement their knowledge with the tutor being the guide in case a student faces a challenge

Helpdesk

A helpdesk is available for any comment, complaint or suggestion by a parent or student. In case the helpdesk is not able to answer the query, a Second School expert will call back.

The helpdesk will be particularly useful in providing detailed analysis of trends in your wards performance vis-a-vis others at the same stage of learning.

The helpdesk will also periodically call to take feedback on progress from your perspective.

Regular Assessment

At the heart of the learning process at Second School is assessment. There is a quiz at the end of each chapter and then another on completion of every four chapters. The assessment is multiple choice and paper correction is done centrally.

Through the assessment, it is not just the marks that are reviewed, but data is also captured on the specific types of mistakes that a student is making.

Appropriate remediation is provided along with the proper analytical reports for you.
