Personal Attention
Learning Styles
The work of Dr Howard Gardner identifies that there are 8 different ways in which we can learn. Every person learns effectively through a combination of these ways. At Second School we test each child to learn their learning style. The tutor is trained to support children in the way they can learn best based on these styles.
You can learn about these learning styles at www.thomasarmstrong.com/multiple_intelligences.php
Practice Time
A significant proportion of time is allocated to providing support to each individual. This time is provided for practice which is tailored to the need of each student, and is focused on remedial training based on assessment.
This time will also be used to resolve specific queries or problems that the student has with their school work.
Performance Reports
Every assessment is available for review, through the lifetime of the student. This enables a robust review of progress with time. There are many aspects that the reports look at
• Charts on progress including actual marks obtained in school tests and exams
• Analysis of mistake categories and progress in eliminating these errors. Each error type is tagged so a later recurrence is carefully monitored
• Details at the sub-topic level, so any concept not understood can be specifically remedied
• Changes in performance that may be caused by other factors, that can then be discussed between the tutor and the parent for special action
Special Classes
Special classes are additionally provided within the base fee paid by the student. Special classes are always specific to each student.
• If a particular concept is not clear after all the remediation available within a class
• When there is a school test or exam coming up, when extra preparation is required
Regular Assessment
At the heart of the learning process at Second School is assessment. There is a quiz at the end of each chapter and then another on completion of every four chapters. The assessment is multiple choice and paper correction is done centrally.
Through the assessment, it is not just the marks that are reviewed, but data is also captured on the specific types of mistakes that a student is making.
Appropriate remediation is provided along with the proper analytical reports for you.
